The Earth, the Cabbage World,
and the Tinderbox
Duncan
Thirty
years ago, my mother – who was eleven years old – got a cabbage plant from her
teacher. When she got home, she put it in a better pot. When it got big enough,
mom moved it to the garden.
One
day they decided to eat it. So mom went out to the garden. When she got out to
the garden, she pulled and PULLED, but no result. Exactly one second later, the
ground began to rock and rock. Suddenly the Earth was a giant cabbage. Mom took
out a tinderbox and set a fire. Then everything was back to normal.
Mom
made cabbage soup, bread, butter, and other good things. They all had it for
supper and enjoyed themselves.
